Are EBC brakes better than OEM? ›

EBC Greenstuff Brake Pads

It's ideal for hard driving (as well as daily driving). This line of brake pads is proven to perform better than OE pads. To be more specific, EBC Greenstuff brake pads: Give your car 15% more stopping power than OE pads.

As the stock discs are drilled, this probably means EBC have saved some weight in the bells. “I very highly recommend these products and there is absolutely no need to upgrade to a much more expensive big brake kit if you're regularly tracking your M2/M3/M4.”

First of all, all race pads from EBC and every other brand are supplied without any shims at all, and EBC's titanium shims are advised for all brands of pad and will reduce heat transfer in the higher temperatures of racing. They are therefore a worthwhile investment.

Fast Street use Pre Bed Fade 1 – drive 50 to 100 miles on Public road/highway normal driving to allow the pads to mate up to the disc and establish full contact followed by 8 stops from 80 mph to 30 mph at 300-yard intervals and then coasting allowing the brakes to cool.

Although EBC is quickly switching to its latest gen 3 silver grey disc rotors, all SG and SG2F disc rotors will remain in the gen 1 disc coating, for the foreseeable future. SG2F/SG2FC discs/rotors will have both a black ring and hub.

Not all brake pads come with shims as they aren't required and function perfectly without needing them. It is often misdiagnosed that the brake rotors themselves are the cause of excessive brake noise such as squeaking or squealing when using moderate brake pedal pressure.

Towing brings extra loads and that mushy feel of many stock or low friction aftermarket pads does not inspire confidence. EBC Yellowstuff gives you as much bite as you can get from a stock system and in most cases will give a noticeable brake improvement under loads of towing.

You can also use brake lube to decrease vibrations between the caliper pistons and disc brake pads. However, do not apply lubrication between the pads and noise suppression shims. Use lube sparingly between the caliper and pad shim or on the back of a bare pad.

Make sure your pads have noise shims, provided on all EBC pads. Check caliper condition, calipers need to be removed and serviced every 5-7 years or exchanged. Sliders and pins in calipers corrode and cause pad drag that leads to brake overheat and squeal.

Which brake pads are easiest on rotors? ›

Semi-Metallic pads are resistant to heat and far easier on rotors than their Ceramic equivalent. They tend to be cheaper and – when around 60% metal is present – lend themselves to heavy braking over a long stretch of road or track. Indeed Semi-Metallic brake pads are perhaps best suited to high performance race cars.

This new surface coating is highly corrosion-resistant and provides excellent rust prevention, and it is now applied to all current production of EBC brake rotors.

OEM brake pads and rotors are made for your car by the same engineers who designed it, which can provide some peace of mind. However, there are plenty of brake pad options from aftermarket brands like Duralast and Brembo that operate as good as the original equipment brakes, and often even better.

Ceramic. By far and away the dearest option, you are likely to own a supercar if possessing a set of ceramic pads. Why the cost? In truth they make for excellent braking, absorbing heat generated from even the harshest, sharpest stops.
